Bows, drop waist, pops of colour, statement veils, 3D appliques & Jacquard lace to name a few of the most recent bridal trends!
Over the past few years, clothing trends in general have become more & more popular, brought about by the increase in social media influencers on platforms such as Tik Tok & Instagram. You can’t now scroll your social media without seeing at least one video from an influencer showing the new in trending pieces for each season from our high street stores.
The same goes for the world of bridal. Each year we find a variety of different trends making their way onto the scene. Many of the trends we see in fashion on the whole are heavily influenced by celebrity style from Michelle Keegan’s signature fishtail look to more recently Molly Mae’s viral leather jacket. For the majority of people, we follow these trends as we want to fit in and be seen to look good & fashionable.
What a lot of people may not realise is that shopping for your wedding dress is an experience like no other; and many people can find the whole thing quite overwhelming. Therefore it is no surprise that a lot of brides turn to google before even stepping foot into a boutique.
‘How to find my bridal style’
‘Tips and tricks to know before going wedding dress shopping’
‘Bridal trends for my wedding year’
‘How to prepare for my bridal appointment’
Google can be incredibly helpful to give brides that initial idea of what it is they may be looking for in their dream dress and we would always advise some research prior to your appointment can be really useful! In your appointment here at Bellamme Bridal we will use this prior research by ask if there are any photos you have saved from when you have been looking online that may help give us an idea of where to start in the search for your dream dress.
But what if I don’t like any of the bridal trends I have seen?
That is okay! There are no rules to say that you must follow the bridal trends that are popular!
The thing about trends is that by definition a trend is an interest or topic of discussion that gains collective attention at a given time, therefore, trends change quickly and often! As mentioned earlier, Michelle Keegan’s signature fishtail look was all the rage just after she got married. However, this style quickly became less popular when people realised that having such a tight-fitting dress was very restrictive on movement and not necessarily that practical on your wedding day when all you want to do is dance.
More recently we have seen that clean aesthetic dominate the industry and yes, it is stunning and classic however, for some people this isn’t what they imagine themselves in on their big day and that’s completely fine, you don’t have to choose a certain style just because it is popular and everybody else seems to be going for it.
In bridal, we would always recommend that you choose something you love over trends if these don’t feel quite right for you. Some people will already love the idea of bows and when they see that they are trending, it feels right for them to have a statement bow on their dress. Not because they are solely influenced by the trend. Same goes for most of the trends we see for example the statement veil, some people love it, some people don’t.
It is important to remember that trends can go out of fashion just as quickly as they came in. Just look at the 90’s puff shoulder trend, we see mums all the time in the boutique reminiscing over their wedding dress with the big shoulders and they love it, but brides now would probably not consider wearing something like that unless it came back around in fashion! So, if you do choose to go for a trending style, it is important to ask yourself ‘If this wasn’t trending would I still choose it?’
Brides, please remember that your wedding dress is the most self-expressive item of clothing that you will ever purchase, and it is so important that you love it no matter what!
